Robert served his country in Korea before returning home to work the family farm in Harlan County for over 50 years. He was a man of few words but great deeds — always the first to help a neighbor and the last to leave a job unfinished. He loved hunting, fishing, John Wayne westerns, and every single one of his grandchildren. Married to Dorothy for 58 years, Robert was the anchor of his family and the bedrock of his community. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, humility, and unwavering love.

text
Lord, let me tend this land with honest hands, As long as you see fit to grant me strength. Let me rise early, work these weathered lands, And walk my rows from width to fullest length. Let me know rain, and drought, and harvest time. Let me love well the people by my side. Let patience be the rhythm and the rhyme Of every season's turning, every tide. And when my final harvest time has come, And I have given back what you have lent — Let those who loved me know the sum Of all my days was full, and well-spent. — Found in Robert's handwriting in his prayer journal
